December = Beach time!

So yay for some sunshine, although, the window of a comfortable summer is quite small where the weather will go from freezing cold to someone-opened-the-oven-door. Anyway, we managed to get a pretty cracking day for this beach shoot. Met Chloe on an unrelated shoot and thought she seemed super fun so organised some swimwear and off we went. This girl has some crazy energy – woha! Perfect for shoots I reckon because nothing worse than having a model who is so quiet and uninspiring that you get more poses out of the local beach crabs. Anyway, not the case here. …

‘Mazing Madi

Whilst searching the house for some hidden chocolate I stumbled across an archive hard drive I had been missing.  As one does, hoping to find a small time capsule of whatever, I plugged it in to find some behind-the-scenes photos of a shoot I did with my pal Madi.  I shot this model YEARS ago when she was a real youngin’ and to now had the opportunity to fire off some frames with her after she has been on modelling TV shows, traveled the world and grown into a rockin’ model. I always find it is a little disappointing when …

Raggatt Skate Shoot

It was time to get my “skeg” on and show up to a Melbourne skate park on crisp weekday morning. Shooting the talented Naomi’s latest range with the absolute divine Bela from Giant Management. It was actually heaps of fun even though we had to shoot around skaters, and I’m not talking 16yr olds skipping school. Had a chat to a 30-something guy who was trying to get back on the board after massive back surgery due to a skating accident. He comes down from the office for morning tea and lunch to “grind out” some tricks. Can you tell …

Geometric Chip & Salsa Test #7

Normally I would keep this level of information private, especially in social scenarios, but I feel it’s time I pass on insights gained in years of strategic nacho eating.  So given it was National Nacho Day two days ago and I need a break from retouching photos, I figured this is the perfect time to dip into the scoopability of the humble corn chip.  Let us begin! The Fragment: Usually found toward the end of the pack/bowl but occasionally picked up in the early stages of the feast.  One must be careful not to grab these as you have just committed …

Lookbook Lunacy with Verity

Had a really fun lookbook shoot today. I know I know, lookbooks? Fun? This one actually was as the designer actually stepped out of that stale, stinky mold of simply shooting straight up down poses of front,side and backs. Unleashing a fab Nat from Vivien’s Models, she embraced the mood board and busted out pose after pose without breaking a sweat. Makeup and hair was tamed by Vic Martin followed by her inspiring cowboy-stance final-looks phone photos of the model. And I thought I pull weird poses when I shoot. Quite unusually this young designer busted out playlists containing soft-core …

Tiahnee Beauty

Had a fab time shooting with Tiahnee (Pride Models) and Zoe Karlis on hair and makeup. Tiahnee is relatively new to modeling and has entered at a very young age. It’s scary when you hear you’re shooting a model on this side of the Millennium flip-over. I mean, she wasn’t even born when Nirvana was around. Suddenly I feel super old…BUT…that’s ok, because we live vicariously through the youth and beauty of models who are as friendly and easy going as Tiahnee. Little behind-the-scenes shot of Zoe cranking out a look.

Studio Mascots?

I’m quite interested in knowing what other Photography mascots people have in their studios. To be honest, I’d prefer a puppy. Tried bringing the cats in but they just FREAKED out and hid in the back-most corner shaking. Humans tend to get irritated with my extremely well thought out playlist of popular 80s and 90s hits, which leaves possibly a cactus. But everyone has cacti – I need something that’s less of a prick. Mascot Inspiration…come at me!

New York Fashion Week

What a fashionably crazy time happens in New York during this annual gathering of the most beautiful. Spent near on two weeks here soaking in the sights, food and fashions of the amazing city. Scarily, I found myself staring through real-estate windows at apartment for sale. The amazing architecture that this place offers is mind-blowing and simply not something we have back home. What we do have we demolish to put up glass towers of bland, livable boxes. Such a shame. Crazily, apartments aren’t out of reach here. Sure, they are expensive, but not totally unobtainable. Although, living in a …

Virtual Photography Storytime

Ok wow, so I have this “Blog” thing going now (do kids still call them blogs?) and will now have to regularly think up creative content to take you, dear reader, on a fantastical journey. I know right, where do I sign up? At this point I’m not entirely sure what I will cover here. Being a picture-maker I kind of like dealing in…well….pictures. So having to type words is certainly a new turn of events – but apparently this will allow me to answer some questions and also show some of the behind the scenes stuff that happens. And …
